Welcome to the Colne Valley Male Voice Choir
Our greatest pleasure comes from performing in front of an appreciative public,
from giving of our best, from translating the hard work of rehearsal into a stage performance of high quality
and then hearing the response, knowing that we have, in turn, given so much pleasure to others, through sharing fine music with them.
We also enter choir competitions, partly in order to challenge ourselves and compete against other quality choirs,
but also as a means of maintaining high standards. Competition does make you try that little bit harder, aim for that elusive perfection.
In this regard we have had considerable success in recent months.
In February 2007 we won three trophies at the Mrs Sunderland Music Festival and came a creditable second in the Prize Winners’
Challenge Competition in the final evening Gala Concert.
In May 2007 we returned to Truro, Cornwall, where we had been placed second in the biennial Cornwall
International Male Voice Choral Festival in 2005. This time we went one better at the Festival and scooped first prize.
We also won the prize for overall best UK choir.
This year, at the local Mrs Sunderland Festival only the Male Voice Class was entered and
1st prize was again achieved and the Brighouse Trophy was retained. In view of this win the Choir Prize Winners’
Challenge was undertaken and this time it was 3rd Prize.
Throughout the spring and summer it’s been back to the concert platform with several prestigious venues away from our local Huddersfield base. Sandwiched in between the concerts were
recording sessions which culminated in the issue in July of a brand new CD entitled “Light & Easy Colne Valley”. We are now busy rehearsing for our own main concert of the year,
the Christmas Festival Concert and again it’s with Grimethorpe Colliery Band for the fifth successive year and then it’s onward to the new year and the Mrs Sunderland Musical Festival
in February. Please visit our Events and Recordings page for details.
